WSW said farewell to Rita MacDonald @ritamacdonald WSW said farewell to Rita MacDonald @ritamacdonald last week as she completed her Ora Schneider Regional Residency Grant! MacDonald spent her time in our studios focusing on a series of woodblock prints.

MacDonald is a visual artist who makes prints, detailed pencil drawings on paper and large site-responsive wall works from paint and plaster. Her work focuses on exploring the experience of place through its relationship to perception and visual association. She’s specifically interested in using geometric patterns, and especially striped fabrics, for their ability to create a tension between the images being seen as flat minimalist abstractions and being seen as recognizable snippets of everyday domestic life – like fabric or wallpaper.
Carve away time for art making at WSW’s rural camp Carve away time for art making at WSW’s rural campus in the beautiful Hudson Valley during this year’s Summer Art Institute! This summer, Yetunde Rodriguez @yaytoonday will be joining us for two weeks instructing gel plate printing and reduction printing workshops. While her gel plate workshop is at capacity, there are still limited spots available in “Single Block Magic: Reduction Printing by Hand,” which will take place July 20 - 24. Sign up today and secure your next summer adventure🏡🌷🌞

This week-long intensive workshop will guide you into taking your craft to the next level and create multi-color block prints! This is the opportunity for a deep dive into the complex relief printing techniques of the reduction print. With a single block of material, you will design, carve, and print a vibrant, multi-layered work of art. This method involves carving the block in stages, resulting in rich, layered compositions that can’t be achieved any other way. All skill levels are welcome!
