Artist
Malgorzata Oakes
Malgorzata Oakes is a Polish-born artist residing in New York. She holds a Ph.D. from the Scientific Interdisciplinary Program in the Arts at the Doctoral School of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art & Design in Wrocław, Poland. Oakes obtained her MFA in Printmaking at the Academy of Art & Design, Wrocław. She is an Assistant Professor in Studio Art at Marist College. Oakes actively shares her innovative research during her workshops at Women’s Studio Workshop, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, and Manhattan Graphics Center.
Her work is exhibited nationally and internationally with solo exhibitions in France, Spain, and Poland. Oakes has been shown in Mini Maxi Print Berlin, Germany; International Screen Print Biennale, Tokyo, Japan; International Printmaking Triennial MTG – Kraków, Poland and MEGALO Print Studio & Gallery, Australia. She is a recipient of fellowships and scholarships at the Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts, Zea Mays Printmaking, and Frans Masereel Centrum. She has been awarded residencies within Collective Research School Residency Frans Masereel Centrum, Belgium; Artist Residency Frans Masereel Centrum, Belgium; Non-toxic Electro-etching Workshop Residency, Gran Canaria, Spain and Zea Mays Printmaking. She has been a Visiting Professor at the Academy of Art & Design in Wrocław, Poland and the Institute of Art & Design at the Pedagogical University, Kraków, Poland.
Oakes continues her research pertaining to sustainability in the arts. Her most recent publication includes Power of Electro-etching Article in Printmaking Today. She is a co-author of an essay Power of Non-toxic Modern Printmaking (Friedhard Kiekeben & Malgorzata Oakes). Her recent FREEDOM Project is exhibited at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art & Design, Wrocław, Poland and the Book Art Museum, Łódź, Poland.
