#FirstFriday: Must-see September Exhibitions!

Maryland

Britny Wainwright (Ceramics Intern ’13) has work in a group exhibition, “Junk in the Trunk”, curated by Natalia Arbelaez (Studio Workspace Residency ’21), at the Baltimore Clayworks. The exhibition opens on September 10, 2022.

IBe’ Bulinda Crawley (Artist’s Book Residency Grant ’21), won the Pyramid Atlantic 2022 Curator’s Award for her book, “11033”, which is a group exhibition, “Looks Good on Paper”, curated by Gretchen Schermerhorn (Studio Workspace Residency ’09) and Kelly Taylor Mitchell (Studio Workspace Residency ’21) at the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center. The exhibition is on view until October 2, 2022. The exhibition also features work from Hannah Bennett (Art-in-Education Workspace Residency ’19), Melissa Harshman (Studio Workspace Residency ’98) and Hannah Moog (Studio Intern ’22).
New York
Ellen Wallenstein (Artist Book Residency Grant ’86) has work in a virtual group exhibition, “Elsewhere”, being shown through the New York Artists Circle. The show will be available to view virtually on September 1, 2022.
Susan Newmark-Fleminger (Studio Workspace Residency ’95) will be part of a group exhibition, “Salon 2022”, being held at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC). The exhibition will be on view from September 10 until September 18, 2022.
Susan Newmark-Fleminger (Studio Workspace Residency ’95) is having an exhibition, “Climate Crisis”, at FGD Gallery. The gallery is open on Friday from 2-5pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 12-5pm. The exhibition will be on view from September 10, 2022 until October 9, 2022.
Kyung Eun You (Art-in-Ed Workspace Residency ’18 and Artist’s Book Residency Grant ’19) has work on display at the SSSSS Gallery.
Minnesota
Savannah Bustillo (Studio Intern ’19) and Erin Moore (Incoming Studio Intern ’22) were both finalists for the MCBA Prize, presented by the Minneapolis Center for Book Arts (MCBA). Other WSW alumnx who were semi-finalists include Colette Fu (Artist’s Book Residency Grant ’22), Wendy Fernstrum (Studio Workspace Residency ’12), Maureen Cummins (Artist’s Book Residency Grant ’98 and ’03, Studio Workspace Residency ’00 and ’06), and Colleen Mullins (Artist’s Book Residency ’98). All artists are included in the 2022 MCBA Prize Exhibition which will be open at the MCBA Main Gallery from now until October 15, 2022.
Pennsylvania
Serena Hocharoen (Studio Intern ’17) has work features in a group exhibition, “a thing shared”, at the Automat Collective. The gallery hours are every Saturday from 12-5pm. The show will be open from September 3 to October 1, 2022 and there will be an opening reception on September 8, 2022.
Maryland

Massachusetts
Macon Reed (WSW Microgrant Recipient ’21) has a solo exhibition, “Hello Death, Where Have You Been All My Life?”, on view at the Bresler Family Gallery at the Center for Craft. The exhibition is currently on view until September 16, 2022.
Missouri

Elizabeth Rose (Art-in-Education Studio Workspace Residency ’22) is in a juried group exhibition, “Layers of Ink”, at the St. Louis Artist’s Guild. She also received an award for her piece, “Altitudinal Zonation” (pictured above) being shown in the exhibition. The exhibition is currently on view and will be open through September 17, 2022.
North Carolina

Colette Fu (Artist Book Residency Grant ’22) has two works on display in a group exhibition, “RETOLD | Chronicles and Other Stories” at the Penland Gallery. The show is currently on view until September 17, 2022.
California
Emily Gui (Studio Internship ’13) has works in a group exhibition, “Art for the Asking”, which is on view in the Worth Ryder Gallery at the UC Berkeley Morrison Library. The exhibition will be on view until September 30, 2022.
