#First Friday: July Exhibitions We Love!

Highlighting exhibitions that feature the work of WSW artists, we share the shows near and far that make up our monthly must-see list.


New York

Katie Baldwin (Artist’s Book Residency Grant ’08, Book Arts Studio Residency ’11), Sarah McDermott (AIE Artist’s Book Residency ’14, Studio Workspace Residency ’19), Shelley Thorstensen (Studio Residency Grant ’04, Studio Workspace Residency ’05) are in a group exhibition, Sanctuary by Printmakers Open Forum: Exchange Portfolio 2019, at Women’s Studio Workshop. The opening is July 8th and the show will be up until September 2nd.

Veronica Graham (AIE Artist’s Book Residency Grant ’17) will be in a group show curated by artist and educator Jessalyn Aaland, Class Sets Volume 1 and 2, on view at Women’s Studio Workshop. The opening is July 8th and the show will be up until September 2nd.


Maryland

Irene Chan (AIE Artist’s Book ’98, Studio Intern ’96) will be the summer Vita Paper Arts Resident at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center. There are summer resident artists meet & greets and artists talks happening on Thursday, July 18, Time TBA. Free admission


Washington

Juliana Kang Robinson (Studio Workspace Resident ’08) presents HanSan, Korean for “One Mountain,” an installation of colorful silk fabric domes reflecting on the tensions between territoriality and unity in our world. The show is on view at METHOD gallery in Seattle from May 31- July 13. There will be an artist’s talk on Wednesday June 26 from 6-8 pm and a 1st Thursday reception on July 11 from 5-9 pm.


Nevada

Marisa Malone (Non Profit Management Intern ’18) will have a solo show, Similar Feeling, at the Holland Project Gallery until July 27th.


Pennsylvania

Sidney Mullis (Studio Workspace Resident ’19) will be in a group show, Terra Not So Firma, open from July 6th to August 1st at FJORD in Philadelphia. The opening reception will be on July 11th from 6-9 pm.

Carson Fox (Studio Residency Grant ’00): will be in a two-person exhibit, Splendiferousness, at Stanek Gallery in Philadelphia. The opening reception is on Friday July 5, 2019.

Jayoung Yoon (Ora Schneider ’18) will be showing in Fiberart International 2019 at Contemporary Craft, open until August 24.


Quebec

 Vanessa Hall Patch (Studio Workspace Residency ’18) will have work in the Biennale internationale d’estampe contemporaine de Trois-Rivières, a juried international printmaking exhibition in Quebec, Canada. The exhibition is up from June 16 to September 8, 2019.


Ohio

Anna Taranova (AIE Artist’s Book Residency ’15) curated a show, No Pressure: The First Ever Power Washer Zine Exhibition! The show will be open during Artwalk on July 3rd and July 19th from 5-9pm in Cleveland.


Spain

Phyllis Kudder Sullivan (Studio Workspace Residency ’12) will be in 39 CICA: concurs internacional de ceramica de l’Alcora. The show will be up from July 12 to September 15, 2019 at the Museum of Ceramics in Alcora.


California

Beth Fein (Studio Workspace ’17) is in Bay Area Prints! 2019 at The Compound Gallery . The show will run until August 4.
