“Dear WSW Family, As 2025 comes to a close, we’re “Dear WSW Family,

As 2025 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on what it means to sustain creative freedom and artistic community in this moment. Across the country, artists and arts organizations are navigating an increasingly uncertain landscape, one where creative expression, equity, and access to resources are all being tested. At Women’s Studio Workshop, we remain steadfast in our belief that art is essential and that artists deserve the space, materials, and support to tell their stories…”

We can’t wait for what’s to come for WSW in 2026! We can’t wait for what’s to come for WSW in 2026!

🏠In April our custom-built gas kiln, designed by Justin Lambert and funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, will be installed! We are continuing to build our new 5,000-square-foot studio facility, which will house our ceramics program and affordable private studio rentals. This fall we completed the exterior of the building, and will turn to the interior build-out this coming spring!

✂️We’re thrilled to introduce “Meet & Make” nights at WSW! Once a month from February to June, we’ll be hosting a series of themed community art-making nights in our front room. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks!

📚We are scheduled to begin production on two new artists’ books in 2026 and will welcome Paige Nguyen, artwork pictured, and Delia Touché on-site for their artist residencies.

✏️We have an exciting line-up of over 20 Summer Art Institute (SAI) workshops planned for 2026, including the introduction of two-day weekend workshops. We’re also pleased to be returning to Scotland with a reimagined course for SAI International since last year was a hit!

📅Mark your calendarsThe 29th Annual Chili Bowl Fest is on April 11th, and we can’t wait! Photo by Maya Wainhaus.

And, of course, we’re delighted to welcome all of the people who make up the fabric of WSW: resident artists, interns, workshop participants, instructors, studio renters, and many others. We look forward to hosting you in our studios next year and seeing the amazing work you create.

Through the many forms of support we receive from our community, WSW sustains its longstanding programs and creates new opportunities. Now, as we look ahead into the new year, we need you.

Love notes from WSW’s artists-in-residence💌 “WSW Love notes from WSW’s artists-in-residence💌

“WSW is a loving community that exemplifies communicating in good faith, solving problems together, and providing mutual support… There is no other place like Women’s Studio Workshop. I learn there not just as an artist, but as a person moving through the world.”
-Katie Garth @katiegarth, Studio Workspace Residency, 2025

“It is incredibly rare to find an organization at the intersection of what WSW provides. Many artists like me appreciate the time and space to focus that art residencies can provide, but few residencies also come with the level of staff support that WSW has, plus funding, accommodations, and the socio-political grounding of WSW’s history which also enables the type of work artists are likely to produce here....”
-Jenie Gao @jeniegao, Studio Residency Grant, 2025

“WSW gave me the opportunity to fully focus on my practice and expand it to more sculptural mediums (ceramics), [and] to know an amazing supportive community. The time there and understanding my relationship with nature is another important aspect of this residency for me.”
-Paria Ahmadi @_safety_matches_, Art-In-Ed Workspace Residency, 2025

Dean’s practice is deeply invested in tracing and being in dialogue with the history of material and aesthetics specific to her own ancestry and lived experience. A significant part of her work is rooted in quilts made during the period of early European colonization of North America through the post-antebellum period. Stitched on, and, eventually off, cotton plantations by enslaved and free African Americans, these quilts signify an enduring communal practice that Dean uses as an anchor for her ceramics practice.
