March 5-23: Visit Westbeth Gallery in NYC for “The Faraway Nearby” a multimedia group show featuring the work of a few WSW artists-in-residence: Jayoung Yoon (2018 Ora Schneider Regional Residency Grant) and Junli Song who will be joining us this summer for a Studio Residency Grant.

March 21-April 7: WSW is delighted to invite you to view the print + paper work of Studio Intern Gil Dickinson, Nonprofit Management Intern Julia Maisel-Berick, and Assistant Studio Manager Celia Shaheen for their group show Overwintering.

An exhibition of works on, of, and off paper, Overwintering is the culmination of work produced by Studio Intern Gil Dickinson, Non-Profit Management Intern Julia Maisel-Berick, and Assistant Studio Manager Celia Shaheen while living and working at Women’s Studio Workshop. Hailing from far warmer corners of the country–Florida, California, and Texas–these artists took inspiration from steadfast creatures that use practices of “overwintering” such as hibernation and migration to survive cold, icy conditions. Bonding over stoves full of soup, freezing pipes, and shoveling snow, Overwintering is a celebration of trips to the thrift store before dark, of piling under blankets during a movie, of dinners, and making a home together. Through studies and meditations on local wildlife, domestic spaces, collecting, and reliquaries, the three distinct bodies of work in Overwintering hold the stillness and pensiveness of winter alongside the light and energy of a new spring.

Michigan

Feb 14-March 15: For an exhibition celebrating women in the field of glass, visit Habatat in Royal Oak, Michigan. Matriarchs of Mastery: Women Shaping the Future of Glass Art will feature work by dozens of artists including the stunning glass handbags of Jen Blazina (2006, 2009 Workspace Residency, 2008 Studio Residency Grant).
