Heidi Neilson (Artist’s Book Resident, ’05 & ’10, Workspace Resident ’06) is featured in Parameters, a group show of artists utilizing chance, restriction, or conceptual rules, at Press Street’s Antenna Gallery, New Orleans, LA. Hurry–Closing May 4!

Laura Moriarity (Workspace Resident ’98, ’07, & ’08, SAI instructor, and former WSW staff) shows sculptures made of layers of solid pigmented beeswax in the solo show Closed System at the Garrison Art Center, Garrison, NY. Hurry–Closing May 4!

Kelli Sillik (SUNY Ulster Ceramics Intern, ’13-14, and former Hands-on-Art participant) is graduating from SUNY Ulster and showing her final sculptural work in the Fine Arts Graduates Exhibition Student Works 2014 at the SUNY Ulster Gallery, Stone Ridge, NY. Hurry–Closing May 15! (Congrats Kelli!)

Antonia Aitkin (Art-in-Education Artist’s Book Resident, ’12) is showing print work based on site-specific markmaking in the solo show Prospect at Craft ACT: Craft & Design Centre, Canberra, Australia. Hurry–Closing May 17!

Laura Moriarty is also featured in Geo_______ , a group exhibition exploring geology, geography and geometry at Art.Science.Gallery., Austin, TX. Hurry–Closing May 18!

Jody Williams (Artist’s Book Resident, ’89 & SAI instructor) is showing books, drawings, boxes, and specimens in Particula Obscura: A Cryptic Installation at Form + Content Gallery, Minneapolis, MN. Hurry–Closing May 24!

Laura Berman (Studio Intern, ’97) shows relief monoprints based on supernovas in the solo show Pulsar at Haw Contemporary,  Kansas City, MO. Hurry–Closing May 24!

New this Month:

Lorrie Fredette (Workspace Resident, ’10) is showing her waxed, pod-like sculptural forms alongside Sarah Amos at Cynthia Reeves,  Battleboro, VT. Show runs May 2 through June 30.

Current Interns Liz Cunningham, Emily Ritter, and Janelle Sandefur are showing new work created during their internship in Tiny Universe at the WSW Gallery, Rosendale, NY. Opening reception May 9, 6-8:30pm. Show runs May 9 through May 26. 

Kris Sader (SAI instructor) is featured in the group show Earth-Art-Maine: in the Presence of Wildness, an exhibition of artists responding to their environments, at Common Street Arts, Waterville, ME. Opening Reception May 9, 5-7pm. Show runs May 9-June 28.

Barbara Beisinghoff (Artist’s Book Resident ’09) is having her largest exhibition to date, showing in Das Gesetz des Sterns und die Formel der Blume (The Law of the Star and the Formula of the Flower) at  Museum Bad Arolsen in Hessel, Germany. Show runs May 16 through July 27. 

Tatana Kellner (WSW Co-founder and Artistic Director) is showing her newest drawings and collages alongside Ivy Dachman, C. Micheal Norton, and Susan Ross in Abstraction Unbound at PS 209 Art Gallery, Stone Ridge, NY. Opening reception May 17, 5-7pm. Show runs May 17 though June 22.

Lorrie Fredette and Laura Moriarty are both featured in the group show Swept Away: Translucence, Transparence, Transcendence in Contemporary Encaustic at the Hunderton Art Museum, Clinton, NJ. Opening reception May 18, 2-4pm. Show runs May 18 through September 7.

Merike van Zanten (Workspace Resident, ’14) will show a book made during her residency at WSW in the group show Intimate Works on Paper  at Intima Gallery, Saugerties, NY. Reception June 6,  5-8pm. Show runs May 24 – June 22.

Irene Chan (Studio Intern, ’96, Art-In-Education Artist’s Book Resident, ’98) is performing “An Incomplete (Sex) Education“–four object-based stories of the artist’s experience in American public school sex ed–at the Praha Fringe Festival, Prague, Czech Republic. Performance runs five nights: May 27, 28, 29, 30, and 31, 9:30-10:15 pm.

Darina Peeva (Studio Resident,’13) is included in NEW PRINTS 2014/Summer at the International Print Center New York. Show runs May 30 – July 1 at IPCNY, and will then move to Christie’s showrooms in midtown Manhattan July 9 -July 16.

Ongoing Shows:

Irene Chan is also showing prints in University of Maryland’s Printmaking: Faculty Art Invitational 2014at the Arts Program Gallery. Show runs April 6 – June 1.

Ann Marie Kennedy (Studio Intern, ’92, Artist’s Book Resident ’98, SAI instructor) is showing new work in Field Studies: Works in Paper by Ann Marie Kennedy and Bryant Holsenbeck at the Ackland Museum Store Gallery, Chapel Hill, NC. Show runs April 11 – June 1.

Tyanna Buie (Studio Resident, ’12, SAI instructor) shows new painterly, collaged monoprints at the solo show “Playing Favorites” at Dean Jensen Gallery, Milwaukee, WI. Show runs April 25 – June 14.

R&F Handmade Paints in Kingston, NY is holding their annual staff exhibition No Constraints: The R&F Staff Show. The show features work by WSW alumnae Stephanie Bell (Summer & Studio Intern, ’11), Laura Moriarty, and Cynthia Winika (Artist’s Book Resident, ’01 & SAI instructor). Show runs April 5 – June 14.

Mariona Barkus (Artist’s Book Resident, ’86) is showing her “Illustrated History” project in Enriching & Engaging — Selected Recent Acquisitions at the Long Beach Museum of Art, Long Beach, CA. Show runs March 7 – June 15.

Merike Van Zanten is also showing another book made recently at WSW in the group show Artist’s Book Cornucopia V at Abecedarian Gallery, Denver, CO. Show runs April 18 – June 16.

Dahlia Elsayed (Geraldine R. Dodge Resident, ’04) is showing work created during her time as a Workspace Resident at Center for Book Arts in their 2013 Workspace Artists-in-Residence group show at CBA, New York City. Show runs April 18 – June 28.
