In the Studio: 2013 Chili Bowl Intern Britny WainwrightFebruary 13, 2013
Women’s Studio Workshop’s Annual Chili Bowl Fiesta is a beloved local event designed to burn-off the winter blues and refuel your inner furnace with great ceramics, fun music and a heaping dose of steaming chili. Every year the Workshop’s ceramics department gathers together a team of local artists and ceramicist volunteers to produce over 800 handmade bowls in preparation for the big day. Many of the faces in the ceramic studio ar regular visitors, but each year WSW chooses one special ceramic artist out of a pool of Chili Bowl Intern applicants to come stay at WSW and help us make it all happen. Britny Wainwright, this year’s Chili Bowl intern, joined us in early January and has been working up a storm downstairs, along with WSW Ceramic Studio Manager Ruth McKinney Burkett, supervising bowl production, assisting volunteers during our community bowl making days, loading and unloading kiln after kiln after kiln AND finding time inbetween all the thises and thats to produce a number of awesome bowls for Chili Bowl 2013.
No stranger to our New York winter, Britny came to us fresh from completing her BFA in Art and a minor in Art Education at Alfred University in upstate New York. Her studies at Alfred included exposure to many different media as well as experience in gallery and exhibition design and jurying shows. Britny took classes in printmaking, photography, oil and mixed material painting before finding her home in Alfred’s ceramics department. We are very pleased to have Britny making her new home here with us where her wide range of experience and awesome attitude make a her an natural fit for Women’s Studio Workshop’s intern program!
