Papermaking

WSW has been making quality handmade papers since 1979. Our Papermaking studio is designed for sheet-forming processes, low relief, and three-dimensional work.

In 1999, WSW began the ArtFarm program, which allows us to grow our own fibers  for hand papermaking. Through ArtFarm we’ve now tested over one hundred native and invasive species for their fiber strength, coloring capacity, print worthiness, and translucency.

The paper studio can be accessed from a set of double doors that swing outward at the base of the sloped gallery hallway or from an outside door that swings outward. This secondary entrance can be accessed by going up the gravel driveway on the left side of the building which leads to a covered porch with both ceramic kilns. At some parts of the room, the paper studio gently slopes for drainage. There are several worktables and large pieces of equipment throughout the room.
