Andrea Chung is a mixed-media conceptual artist currently living and working in San Diego, CA. She graduated with a BFA in Illustration from Parsons School of Design and an MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art. During her residency, Andrea experimented in our Papermaking Studio, a practice she had never done before. Here, she created a collection of pulp sculptures depicting hands of Jamaican midwives in the “baby-catching” position. She also embedded images of Jamaican women within the sheets of paper that she pulled, their bodies only visible when held to the light.
