End of Year Message from the Director
December 18, 2025Dear WSW Family,
As 2025 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on what it means to sustain creative freedom and artistic community in this moment. Across the country, artists and arts organizations are navigating an increasingly uncertain landscape, one where creative expression, equity, and access to resources are all being tested. At Women’s Studio Workshop, we remain steadfast in our belief that art is essential and that artists deserve the space, materials, and support to tell their stories.

This year we’ve seen the impact of this support through projects like Following Freedom, by WSW resident Laurie Darby. This artist’s book honors the hundreds of formerly enslaved people who died following Union soldiers at Ebenezer Creek, Georgia, in 1864. In this piece, the artist reflects on the site’s history and her personal connection to it. The work reclaims the geography for Black joy and reflection, transforming a site of tragedy into one of remembrance, freedom, and renewal. Women’s Studio Workshop makes publications like this possible in a time when the stories that need to be heard the most are being stifled.

There is a crisis of arts funding at the national level. Your year-end gift will ensure that WSW continues to be a home for artists whose voices challenge, inspire, and expand our understanding of the world. These funds will go directly toward supporting artists through stipends, residencies, publications, and community programs.
Our goal is to raise $65,000. Will you help us do it?
Our mission remains constant: to champion the voices of women, trans, intersex, nonbinary, and genderfluid artists, and to ensure that their work is seen, valued, and preserved. With your gift today, we can step boldly into the year ahead and build the future our artists deserve.
With gratitude and determination,

Natalie Renganeschi
Acting Director
