Artists in America have long battled against injustices, believing that art can in fact “do more.” The War of Art tells this history of artist-led activism and the global political and aesthetic debates of the 1960s to the present. In contrast to the financialized art market and celebrity artists, the book explores the power of collective effort — from protesting to philanthropy, and from wheat pasting to planting a field of wheat.

The afternoon will include a reading by O’Neill-Butler from the book, an interactive talk led by Brenda Miller, a Kingston-based artist who contributed to the book, a Q&A, and a book signing. @Postmarkbooksny will also be onsite selling copies of the book. This event is free and open to the public, but we encourage you to reserve a spot. Link in bio.

We’re sad to see this beautiful mural go, but he We’re sad to see this beautiful mural go, but here’s a sneak peak into our next mural by Symone Salib @symonesalibstudio !

Last year, Shelby Rodeffer’s @smellby SAI workshop “Public Murals Are for Everyone: Exploring the Arena of Civic and Public Artwork” painted this beautiful mural on our campus to honor 50 years of WSW!

The group combined the commonality of artistic themes that resonated with them individually and together. Those included: community, nature, memory, femininity, and handmade creativity. In reflecting on what these narratives meant to their practice as artists, and to the environment around WSW, they in turn developed this design with the Three Sisters of the Lenape Indigenous peoples as their central focus.
