As WSW approaches our 50th anniversary we are inve As WSW approaches our 50th anniversary we are investing in preserving our history, examining and framing our rich past, and designing innovative programs that pair scholarly research with artistic exploration and experimentation. In service of these goals, and thanks to the generous support of the Hauser & Wirth Institute, we are proud to welcome our newest staff member, Faythe Levine!

Levine’s creative practice revolves around reimagining archives and collections through a queer feminist lens. She has a new book slated to be published by OK Stamp Press in 2024. From 2017-2021 Levine worked at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, first as the Assistant Curator and was then promoted to Director of Arts/Industry. Among other projects, she directed and authored two feature length documentaries with accompanying books published by Princeton Architectural Press, Sign Painters (2013) and Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY Art, Craft and Design (2009).

As the Hauser & Wirth Institute Archivist for Women's Studio Workshop, she will manage, oversee, and increases public visibility of our archives and special collection, while advancing WSW’s work as an important hub for radical thought, for modeling economic viability for print and book culture and story-telling, and for technical exploration in multiple mediums.

Welcome Faythe!

We are so pleased to welcome LaToya M. Hobbs ( @la We are so pleased to welcome LaToya M. Hobbs ( @latoyahobbs ) to our studios for a six-week Studio Residency Grant!

Of her work, Hobbs says, "As a painter and printmaker, I use figurative imagery to facilitate an ongoing dialogue about the Black female body in the hope of showcasing a more balanced perception of our womanhood, one that dismantles prevailing stereotypes. My practice incorporates the production of mixed-media works that seamlessly marry traditional painting and relief printmaking techniques on a single surface. These hybrid works employ the use of pattern, color, and texture to provide a visceral experience that is both universal and specific."

Welcome LaToya!
