We recently said farewell to Malene Barnett @malen We recently said farewell to Malene Barnett @malene.barnett who had a prolific six-week residency on campus. She was a recipient of the Anita Wetzel Residency Grant.

Malene Barnett is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist, textile surface designer, and founder of the Black Artists + Designers Guild, a global platform for independent Black makers. Her work draws on her African Caribbean heritage, using mark-making and pattern to explore cultural identity. While at WSW, she worked across our studios, screenprinting, making handmade paper, and experimenting with embossing and debossing.
Sometimes it takes a village…big thanks to John an Sometimes it takes a village…big thanks to John and JoAnn from Letterpress Things @letterpressthingsjsb for the extra long furniture (the material used to secure larger printing forms in place during the printing process) for our Vandercook SP20 press, scoring matrix, and other equipment that we used to score Paige Nguyen’s upcoming artist book, “American Denim.” We’re now onto the next step of folding and collating, and one step closer to the 2027 release of her book!

If you happen to be in Holyoke, Massachusetts, this weekend, stop by for their pop-up holiday sale on Saturday, October 24 :)
