In this non-toxic workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of safer intaglio, specifically electro-etching methods and explore its endless possibilities. Participants will gain a working knowledge of the science behind electro-etching, safely preparing and etching their metal plates as well as maintaining a non-toxic work environment. 

Workshop will cover the following processes: electro-line, electro-tint, open bite, electro-graphite, along with the electro-galvanizing method. BIG ground and other safer solutions will be Used. By the end of this workshop, participants will not only print a small edition of their prints, but also gain the knowledge and confidence to set up their own electro-etching tank in their studio.

Artist

Malgorzata Oakes

Malgorzata Oakes is a Polish-born artist, educator, and researcher known for her work in sustainable, non-toxic printmaking methods. Her creative work includes prints, drawings, and paper installations that examine genetic memory, identity, and environmental issues. She is an Assistant Professor of Studio Art at Marist University.

She earned both her Ph.D. and MFA from the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art & Design in Wrocław, Poland. She has been awarded residencies at prestigious institutions in Belgium, Spain and the United States. Her work has been featured in international exhibitions, in addition to her research being published in professional journals.
