Pulp as Ink: Layered Screenprinting in Handmade Paper – Nazanin Noroozi
Dates: August 3 – 7, 2026
Studio: Papermaking
Tuition: Sliding Scale, $450 – $1300
Lab fee: $150
Class limit: 6
This workshop explores a unique hybrid practice that bridges printmaking and papermaking through screenprinting with pigmented linen pulp. Working between the paper and print studios, you’ll learn how pulp can function both as paper and as ink, opening up possibilities for layering, color mixing, transparency, and image making.
You will be introduced to techniques for screenprinting directly into wet sheets of handmade paper, allowing for both painterly effects and crisp, graphic imagery. We will build layered compositions using pulp paint, embedded materials, and varied fibers to create shifts in opacity and texture. Emphasis will be placed on developing a personal visual language while learning the technical foundations of this versatile process. The workshop welcomes artists working in printmaking, papermaking, and related fields who are interested in expanding their approach to image-making.
This workshop will occasionally visit the silkscreen studio located on the second floor, up a flight of stairs. Papermaking is a wet process; participants should be prepared with waterproof or water-safe shoes and clothing. This workshop will involve prolonged periods of standing, often requiring repeated movements in the upper body, and the maneuvering of heavy items.
This workshop is currently in the week-long members-only registration period. Registration will open to the public on February 4th.
