Let’s make a Lantern! Paper & Wire Forms – Ashley Page

Dates: July 27 – 31, 2026
Studio: Papermaking
Tuition: Sliding Scale, $450 – $1300
Lab fee: $150
Class limit: 6

Explore the translucent quality of paper in this lantern workshop! We will cover basic sheetforming and expand into more advanced 3-dimensional papermaking applications. Participants will learn how to construct an orbital vessel form of their design using cold connection wire techniques. Utilizing fibers such as overbeaten abaca, the central focus of this workshop will be the papermaking and wire vessel process. At the end of our time spent together, we will showcase our battery-powered LED illuminated lanterns throughout the Women’s Studio Workshop campus to create a “lantern walk” and watch our creations come to life!

Papermaking is a wet process; participants should be prepared with waterproof or water-safe shoes and clothing. This workshop will involve prolonged periods of standing, often requiring repeated movements in the upper body, and the maneuvering of heavy items.

This workshop is currently in the week-long members-only registration period. Registration will open to the public on February 4th.
