Melissa Jay Craig
Melissa Jay Craig is a Chicago-based artist whose sculptural book works, paper sculptures, and installations are exhibited internationally. As a nearly deaf artist, Melissa explores reading and language by using forms found in nature. Her project at WSW was based on lichens in Scotland, the colors, patterns, and distribution of which suggest messages we are unable to decipher. Melissa is the full-time teaching Artist-in-Residence at Columbia College and Chicago’s Center for Book and Paper Arts. For several years, she has taught “Unusual 3D Paper Techniques” in our Summer Art Institute workshop series.
