By Sunday May 12th we are trying to raise $5000, enough to fund one Parent Residency Grant!

We encourage you to make a gift in honor or in memory of the inspiring caregivers in your life—your mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, teacher, or friend. Everyone who donates will receive a digital certificate of appreciation to share with the person they have chosen to honor.

In 2014, an article in The New York Times lead with: “One of the worst career moves a woman can make is to have children.” Many working mothers echo the sentiment, especially given the well-documented systematic discrimination that parents experience in the workplace. Added to this are the physical, financial, and time commitments of pregnancy and caregiving which can make it difficult for parents to achieve their professional goals.

Women’s Studio Workshop is proud to provide opportunities specifically for those who balance their work as artists and as caregivers. WSW’s Parent Grant is a four-week residency for artists with at least one dependent child. It includes a stipend for childcare and travel costs, 24-hour studio access, and free on-site housing for the artist, a co-caregiver, and the dependent. This grant is one of our most sought-after, and our most competitive; in 2018 we were only able to fund residencies for less than two percent of applicants. This overwhelming response signals the necessity of opportunities for parent artists.

In direct response to this need, WSW is proud to launch our annual Mother’s Day campaign with the goal to raise enough to fully fund an additional Parent Residency Grant!
