Pulp Paint Play with Claudia Borfiga

July 15 - July 19

| $350 – $1200

Pulp Paint Play – Claudia Borfiga

Dates: July 15 – 19, 2024
Studio: Papermaking
Tuition: Sliding Scale, $350-$1200
Lab fee: $100
Class limit: 8

During this workshop participants will learn how to make pulp paintings from start to finish! After learning how to form a base sheet, we’ll begin to build our imagery directly on top, inspired by sketchbooks or any reference images participants have gathered. Each participant will develop their personal palette of colored paper pulp to work from. We’ll explore how we can use different densities of pulp, and a variety of tools, to achieve different mark-making on our sheets. Organic shapes can be made freehand, whilst crisper lines can be created using hand-cut stencils. This is a low-pressure method that has plenty of space for experimenting and making mistakes! No prior experience is required, participants will be guided through each step of the process.

In order to reserve your space in the class, we require a $150 nonrefundable deposit. WSW offers a sliding tuition model for the Summer Art Institute, and you can pick your desired tuition level from the drop-down menu at check-out. If you are in a position to pay full tuition or more, we request that you do so. The pay-as-you-can model is not based on tax returns or documentation, rather your self-determined capacity to pay. Registration is on a first-come first-served basis, and you can read about our refund and cancellation policies here.

Claudia Borfiga

Claudia Borfiga is a visual artist, compelled to capture the wonders of the natural world and connect community through a range of mediums including paper, textiles, and print. Her joy for the outdoors is evident in the work she makes, leaning into dreamscapes through the use of color and texture. She was an artist-in-residence at WSW in the Winter of 2023. Initially, she intended to spend her time in the screen print studio but became enamored with learning to pulp paint. She has been a teaching artist for over 10 years and encourages a playful engagement in creative workshops.
