Inside, Outside: Handbuilding a Lidded Box with Chrystal O’Boyle

This four-week class will explore the possibilities of slab construction, transforming two-dimensional slabs of clay into 3D geometric objects with lids. To add a unique twist to our straight-walled geometric boxes we will explore Mishima, a traditional inlay decoration technique. This class encourages participants to take this time to have fun designing a unique functional item for everyday use!
Chrystal O’Boyle (she/her) has had a lifelong love of the arts. Born and raised in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Chrystal attended the School of Art at the University of Arkansas and graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in art education. In 2018, she became a teaching artist at the Community Creative Center, instructing classes in ceramics, painting, and glass fusing. In the 2021-2022 school year, she completed her post-baccalaureate at the University of Oklahoma studying ceramics. While in Oklahoma, she also worked as a studio school instructor at Oklahoma Contemporary. In the 2022-2023, Chrystal served as an Emerging Artist in Residence at Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft. Now, she is pursuing her MFA in Ceramics at SUNY New Paltz in New York. When she isn’t in the studio, she enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.
$195.00 tuition includes one bag of clay and firing fees. Registration is online only, and is first come first serve. To inquire about the wait list call WSW at (845) 658-9133 or email [email protected].
Kilns will be fired on a weekly basis. One 25 lb bag of clay will be provided with the class. Additional clay can be purchased for $30/25lb bag if needed. The outdoor class area will be available for students to use throughout the week during daylight hours. There will not be access to our basement studio at this time as we are working to build a better space. There will be some personal shelving space for each student to store clay tools and some work in process. Shelving dimensions are approximately: 17” x 10” x 24”.
