Paria Ahmadi
Paria Ahmadi (b. 1998, Ahvaz, Iran) works and lives in New York. She received a BFA in Photography from Art University of Tehran in 2021 and later graduated from the MFA Photography program at Parsons School of Design in 2023. Her practice is an ongoing attempt to rethinking borders and the politics of memory, archive, and communication, drawing on the poetics of marks, language, and investment of imaginaries. Her work brings forms of attachment and attention rather than direct information, asking the audience to imagine feelings of everyday within the sociopolitical borders and the complexities faced in communication that are the ungraspable in linguistic systems. She works across media including printmaking, video, sound, and installation, and often collaborates with contemporary jazz musicians and writers. Her work has been published and exhibited internationally including the United States, Iran, Germany, Canada, and China. She is the recipient of numerous grants and residencies including LESP Keyholder residency (2024), Women’s Studio Workshop Art-In-Ed workspace residency (winter 2025), SVA RisoLab publishing residency (2024) , and DAAD fellowships (2019, 2021).
