Lorraine Cruz

Lorraine was born in the Dominican Republic and is currently based in Miami Florida. They received a BA in liberal arts where they focused on Afrocentric Psychology at The New College of Florida. Lorraine’s work explores themes around the formation of immigrant identity in a western context and the spiritual consequences of meaning-making within a foreign land. Their work is heavily influenced by their research and seeks to examine dichotomous thinking, racial hegemony & compartmentalization of self within the US. Through their work, they reimagine and illustrate the process of unlearning and reach towards an integration of self. Ultimately their work seeks to validate those who were born & have come to exist in the margins, to break boxes, and carve a space for wholeness.
