Carol Struve is a Hudson Valley-based painter and printmaker. She came to WSW for a fellowship (now Workspace Residency) in our etching studio. Primary sources that drive her art making practice are the love of process and the natural world. Materials and technique inform development of imagery and expression of the natural elements observed such as pattern, texture, light, space and color. Carol’s current work is a series of large-scale water based monoprints. The imagery is influenced by micro-view “snippets” of cellular plant structures. Webs of color are organized into a conglomeration of organic, abstract shapes that depict movement, infinite space, and atmospheric light.

Carol’s work has been included in numerous regional and national exhibitions including solo exhibitions at A.I.R. Gallery in New York City and the Plains Art Museum, Fargo, North Dakota. Select regional exhibitions include Manhattan Graphics Center, Dorksy Museum, LABspace, Lockwood Gallery, Wired Gallery, and Woodstock Artists Association. She has served twice as a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship panelist and has been the recipient of several grant awards and residencies. Carol holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and an MFA from University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
