Scattered memory

Scattered Memory is a portrait of the artist via collected moments with family and friends. The story, mixed in chronology, is woven across a span of sixty-five years from the mother’s family portrait in Taiwan in 1940 to the artist’s family portrait in Oakland, CA in 2005. The printed black silhouettes of people emphasize group identity in contrast with individual identity, represented by autobiographical captions. The portraits, both specific and anonymous, show an individual’s struggle between appearance, culture, generation, and place.
