InIquity/InEquity

InIquity/InEquity

Iniquity…immoral and grossly unfair behavior.

Inequity…lack of fairness or justice.

Ann E. Kalmbach and Tatana Kellner, two of the four co-founders of WSW, have collaborated on art for over 50 years. InIquity/InEquity is their 16th book, published under the moniker KaKeART. This piece combines Kalmbach’s experiments in lexicography and humor, Kellner’s collaged and monoprinted figures and stamped text, and the pair’s lifelong engagement in political action.

This work explores how language evolves and shapes our perception of our world, exploring 23 lesser-known words, like Twistory, the twisting of facts in history to suit one’s agenda; Kakistocracy, meaning a state of society governed by its least suitable or competent citizens; and Pejorism, the belief that the world is becoming worse. A grey bold line of text runs like a thread through the book, offering a glimpse of hopefulness for the reader.

Imagery and text are silkscreen-printed in striking black, white, and red, hardbound with a drop spine and a two-color silkscreen-printed cover.
