Tyanna Buie

Tyanna Buie came to WSW from Milwaukee where she was teaching screen printing at Milwaukee College of Art and Design. Her work at Women’s Studio Workshop was based around imagery involving an incarcerated uncle, who, because of the misspelling of his name, was ‘lost’ to his family for several years. Her screenprint process included photographic imagery and painterly monoprint techniques. The final piece was composed of a series of large scale images assembled to a mural-sized memorial work.

Tyanna is now living in Detroit where she is Assistant Professor/Section Chair of Printmaking at the College for Creative Studies. She is a 2015 recipient of the Joan Mitchell Painters & Sculptors Grant. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Milwaukee Art Museum.
