Katherine Spinella

Katherine Spinella earned her MFA from the University of Oregon in 2013, and continued on as Adjunct Professor of Printmaking. She currently resides in Portland, Oregon where she instructs printmaking courses at the Oregon College of Art and Craft and holds the position of Studio Operations Manager/Instructor at the Independent Publishing Resource Center.

Katherine utilizes print media and relief sculpture in her studio practice, choosing objects to cast, photograph or print that possess a pleasant sort of uselessness, spirited artifice or aggressive cheeriness. Through abstraction and image-object placement, her projects look at what a still life is, exploring the physical nature of these forms, their presence through color and materials, and the ideology embedded in the physicality of the objects and environments.

Katherine is originally from Michigan and was in residence at WSW in 2009 through an arts in education fellowship, working in the studios with high school students.
