Carol Barton

Carol Barton earned a BFA from the Washington University of Fine Arts in painting but shifted focus shortly thereafter to work as a paper engineer and book artist for over 25 years. Barton has produced two books with WSW, Everyday Road Signs and Tunnel Map.

WSW is celebrating 40 years of collaboration with WSW is celebrating 40 years of collaboration with the Kingston City School District (KCSD) (@kingstoncsd) this spring! Since 1985, Art-in-Education (AIE) has offered thousands of students the opportunity to work alongside practicing artists and learn some of what it means to be an artist in today’s world. Kingston High School students come to WSW to work on projects to enhance their college application portfolios, and elementary and middle school students focus on projects to complement their classroom studies. AIE sessions always culminate in an exhibition, like the one opening on April 26, allowing students to have the experience of showing their work in a professional gallery. WSW looks forward to many more years of collaboration with KCSD to foster creative, project-based integration of curriculum. The Art-in-Education program is made possible by NoVo (novoinkingston, a branch of the NoVo Foundation), Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation, Klock Kingston Foundation, Stewart’s Holiday Match Program, and by the New York State Council of the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York Legislature. We had an amazing 28th Annual Chili Bowl Fest even We had an amazing 28th Annual Chili Bowl Fest even with the gloomy weather! We were thrilled by the sense of community felt throughout our campus as attendees perused the bowls, enjoyed chili, and listened to the band. Thank you to everyone who came in person and who participated in the online sale, and thank you to our amazing volunteers who helped the day run so smoothly! We’re grateful for our community <3 This event is made possible by the generous individuals, businesses, and institutions of the Hudson Valley who support our mission. A huge thank you to our fiscal year event sponsors: Rich & Bander LLP, Rondout Savings Bank (@bank_rondout), Ryan and Ryan Insurance Brokers, and Ulster Savings Bank (@ulstersavings). Stay tuned for the finished product…

The forecast is showing rain, but don’t worry, we’ll have a cozy tent set up on the patio and hot chili ready to warm you right up! We’re excited to see you rain or shine❤️ ★ Each bowl purchase comes with a FREE serving of chili donated from neighboring eateries AND a serving of corn chips! Take your pick from our meat, veggie, and gluten-free options :) ★ Want more than chili? Check out our concession stand stacked with @bjornqorn, @yesfolk kombucha, seltzers, and boxed water ★ Enjoy live music all day from @libraryband ★ Bringing your kids? We’ll have a face paint & temporary tattoo station! Browse our selection of over 500 beautiful bowls hand-crafted by local artists, WSW staff and interns, resident artists, students, and volunteers. Because so many hands contribute to this process, each vessel is one-of-a-kind, and widely varied in shape, size, color, decoration, and, of course, price-point! Check out what Ashley Page (@ashleypage.studio) (s Check out what Ashley Page (@ashleypage.studio) (studio residency grant) has been up to in the papermaking studio recently! Incorporating relief prints, drawings, hair, rice, and shells, Ashley has been exploring the diaspora and intersections of plants, people and stories within her handmade paper. She has also been working with wire seedpod forms, touching on themes of transformation and growth. We can’t wait to see what else she creates!
