Rebecca Barfoot

Rebecca Barfoot is an interdisciplinary artist who came to WSW to work in our ceramics studio, exploring oil paint-based image transfer techniques. She lives and works in Durango, CO, and is adjunt faculty at the New Mexico School for the Arts in Santa Fe.

Thank you to everyone who came out for the opening Thank you to everyone who came out for the opening reception of “Shared Spaces!” It was wonderful seeing the culmination of these student’s hard work, and the pride they took in seeing their pieces in a gallery space. Here’s to 40 years of Art-In-Education in partnership with the Kingston City School District @kingstoncsd! Over four weeks, students worked in our Papermaking, Intaglio, and Silkscreen studios, engaging with the foundations of these artistic processes through experimentation and collaboration.Teaching artists SR Lejeune, Celia Shaheen @gothmomgothmom, Gil Dickinson @rathertendersubject, and Paria Ahmadi @_safety_matches_explored these central themes in each studio’s lesson planning, exemplifying how studios are shared spaces of creativity and play. AIE is made possible with support from NoVo novoinkingston, a branch of the NoVo Foundation, Cornelia T. ⭐️SUMMER-ART-INSTITUTE INSTRUCTOR HIGHLIGHT⭐ ⭐️SUMMER-ART-INSTITUTE INSTRUCTOR HIGHLIGHT⭐️ Rie Hasegawa @hariehanga will join us for two weeks of Do-It-Yourself printmaking fun this August! Check out her workshops “Non-Toxic Printmaking: Kitchen Lithography, Watercolor Monotype and More!” and “Drypoint with Chine Collé: Multi-Color and Layer.” Link in bio. Rie Hasegawa was born in Tokyo, Japan. She works in various print media, including intaglio, relief print, lithograph, and monoprint. Her prints have been locally and internationally exhibited for over twenty years. Rie currently works as a Master Printer at EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop and has taught various printmaking classes and workshops at the New York Academy of Art and the Whitney Museum. As a collaborative printer, she has collaborated on editions and provided technical assistance to over 80 artists. Artist collaborators include Zarina Hashmi and Alexandra Bell. SAI at Women’s Studio Workshop is a time to focus on your work, become energized and inspired, learn new skills, and meet a new community of like-minded artists! ARTIST FEATURE: Viv Siqueriros @viv.ceramics, a pa ARTIST FEATURE: Viv Siqueriros @viv.ceramics, a participating artist in “You Deserve Your Flowers,” a group ceramics exhibition curated by Lena Chin @lenalaiceramics. During a time of immense social-political violence against people of color, women, disabled, and LGBTQIA+ communities, this exhibition offers a place of respite and recognition. Join us for the opening celebration in our gallery on Saturday, May 17th, from 4 to 7 PM! Drawn to making socially interactive sculptures, Viv siqueiros plays with familial memory, queer identity, and clay kinship. Working in clay studios since their adolescence, siqueiros traces years of mentorship and sustained practice within their work. Siqueiros studies ceramics within and beyond art institutions, finding connections in and working towards collective spaces. Sign up today for Everyday Whimsy: Hand-Built Sculptural Vessels with Lora Shelley @lorashelley. Explore different hand-building methods— including slab, coil, pinch, and hollowing out a form. Embracing experimentation and play, you’ll dream up whimsical designs and make them come to life! This week is the last chance to register. Classes run Mondays from 5-7 PM starting next Monday, May 5th, and ending June 9th. Link in bio to learn more or register. While we work on our new and improved studio, our ceramic program is setting up camp on the back deck outside of the silkscreen studio! In case of inclement weather, the outdoor space is shaded in the afternoon and evening and has a covering adequate to provide shelter from light rain. We are pleased to announce that “A Radical Alter We are pleased to announce that “A Radical Alteration: Women’s Studio Workshop as a Sustainable Model for Art Making,” curated by Maymanah Farhart, has made its way to D.C. and launched at the National Museum of Women in the Arts @womeninthearts! The exhibition will be on view through September 28th, 2025. Check it out across from the Guerrilla Girls exhibition if you’re in the area! A Radical Alteration opened in January 2024 and has had three stops before arriving at NMWA. The exhibition will wrap up at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts @MinnesotaCenterforBookArts between August 16 and October 3, 2025. Our 50th-anniversary exhibition examines the organization’s rich history as a proponent of book arts for marginalized communities in the U.S., where documentation and critical analysis in the field are still largely reserved for White male artists. Through artists’ books, zines, printed materials, ephemera, and archival materials, the exhibition looks at how the WSW’s policies, programming, and operations have evolved over the last fifty years, thus creating a space where the conditions of art making and institutional support are in the service of a sustainable and more equitable art ecosystem. Join us for the opening celebration in our gallery on Saturday, May 17th, from 4 to 7 PM! S. Lantz is an artist primarily working in ceramics. They are pursuing an MFA in Ceramics at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and are the Administrator for The Color Network. S. Lantz has exhibited in Seattle, nationally, and abroad. They graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington, Seattle. S. Lantz investigates expressions of care, intimacy, and identity. Ceramic forms graft visual and technical languages of tattoos, piercings, and adornment with communication of individual and collective identity to self and others. In this work, they grapple with explicit or encoded identities, contact, care, context, liminality, and identity. Themes of celebration and mourning, expressions of ownership of self and body, and the ownership and telling of stories and histories surface in this work. #womenstudioworkshop #WSWexhibitions #contemporaryceramics #QueerCeramics #hudsonvalleyart

Consider adding on a meal plan, so you don’t have to worry about meals and can focus on your craft while you’re here Enrolled SAI students can register for a meal plan and receive five locally-sourced home cooked lunches and one dinner with a glass of wine, prepared by Chef Lexa Walsh @lexawalshstudios, for just $155.
