Debora Svensson
Among cackling chickens and swaying fields, Debora Svensson (b.1990) works with her art in the countryside outside Malmö in southern Sweden. With linocut and drypoint she moves primarily in the printmaking discipline – but uses watercolor and welding as well to express herself. The style can be described as line drawing with a hint to cartoon, sometimes with monstrous elements. As a nod to political woodcut activists, she uses the knife and needle to carve out her messages, which often revolve around power relations and abuses. Topics covered include asylum rights, gender (in)equality, and international power game – most of the time with some satirical twist. Her major work is an hand printed Artist’s Book that was published at “Galago” as a political ABC – poster, and a solo exhibition at Trelleborgs Museum with 800 meters of silkscreen printed wallpaper with seamless, political patterns.
