Hawley Hussey

Hawley Hussey is an artist, writer, and performer who came to WSW as an Artist’s Book Residency to produce two projects: the woodcut-printed The Devil and Me, and the linocut-printed . She holds a BFA in painting from University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

⭐️SUMMER-ART-INSTITUTE INSTRUCTOR HIGHLIGHT⭐ ⭐️SUMMER-ART-INSTITUTE INSTRUCTOR HIGHLIGHT⭐️ Caroline Kern @carolinezkernz will join us for two weeks of printmaking fun this July! Check out her workshops “Emulsion-Free Screen Printing: Stencils, Hoops, Dyes, and More!” and “Risograph Structures.” Link in bio. Caroline is an interdisciplinary artist and founder of Pegacorn Press, a feminist, queer, “total-art freaker” publishing house. Her practice includes drawing, painting, Risograph publishing, textiles, video, and printmaking. For over twenty-five years, she has been creating affordable multiples in the form of patches, prints, t-shirts, and hankies as part of the international DIY punk and art-book publishing scenes. Her work, as well as titles she has published, have been exhibited, sold, and are held in institutional collections worldwide. Collaboration is a key element of her practice and she believes in creating accessible editions with an artistic and queer agenda. SAI at Women’s Studio Workshop is a time to focus on your work, become energized and inspired, learn new skills, and meet a new community of like-minded artists! WSW is celebrating 40 years of collaboration with WSW is celebrating 40 years of collaboration with the Kingston City School District (KCSD) (@kingstoncsd) this spring! Since 1985, Art-in-Education (AIE) has offered thousands of students the opportunity to work alongside practicing artists and learn some of what it means to be an artist in today’s world. Kingston High School students come to WSW to work on projects to enhance their college application portfolios, and elementary and middle school students focus on projects to complement their classroom studies. AIE sessions always culminate in an exhibition, like the one opening on April 26, allowing students to have the experience of showing their work in a professional gallery. WSW looks forward to many more years of collaboration with KCSD to foster creative, project-based integration of curriculum. The Art-in-Education program is made possible by NoVo (novoinkingston, a branch of the NoVo Foundation), Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation, Klock Kingston Foundation, Stewart’s Holiday Match Program, and by the New York State Council of the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York Legislature. We had an amazing 28th Annual Chili Bowl Fest even We had an amazing 28th Annual Chili Bowl Fest even with the gloomy weather! We were thrilled by the sense of community felt throughout our campus as attendees perused the bowls, enjoyed chili, and listened to the band. Thank you to everyone who came in person and who participated in the online sale, and thank you to our amazing volunteers who helped the day run so smoothly! We’re grateful for our community <3 This event is made possible by the generous individuals, businesses, and institutions of the Hudson Valley who support our mission. A huge thank you to our fiscal year event sponsors: Rich & Bander LLP, Rondout Savings Bank (@bank_rondout), Ryan and Ryan Insurance Brokers, and Ulster Savings Bank (@ulstersavings).
