EunKyung Jeong

EunKyung Jeong was born in Korea where she received a degree in fiber arts. She continued her education at SUNY New Paltz earning an MFA in sculpture. During her residency at WSW EunKyung worked in the hand papermaking studio. Currently EunKyung is teaching at Western Oklahoma State University.

ARTIST FEATURE: S. Lantz @s.l.a.n.t.z, a participa ARTIST FEATURE: S. Lantz @s.l.a.n.t.z, a participating artist in “You Deserve Your Flowers,” a group ceramics exhibition curated by Lena Chin @lenalaiceramics. During a time of immense social-political violence against people of color, women, disabled, and LGBTQIA+ communities, this exhibition offers a place of respite and recognition. Join us for the opening celebration in our gallery on Saturday, May 17th, from 4 to 7 PM! S. Lantz is an artist primarily working in ceramics. They are pursuing an MFA in Ceramics at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and are the Administrator for The Color Network. S. Lantz has exhibited in Seattle, nationally, and abroad. They graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington, Seattle. S. Lantz investigates expressions of care, intimacy, and identity. Ceramic forms graft visual and technical languages of tattoos, piercings, and adornment with communication of individual and collective identity to self and others. In this work, they grapple with explicit or encoded identities, contact, care, context, liminality, and identity. Themes of celebration and mourning, expressions of ownership of self and body, and the ownership and telling of stories and histories surface in this work.

ARTIST FEATURE: Isissa Komada-John @isissa, a part ARTIST FEATURE: Isissa Komada-John @isissa, a participating artist in “You Deserve Your Flowers,” a group ceramics exhibition curated by Lena Chin @lenalaiceramics. During a time of immense social-political violence against people of color, women, disabled, and LGBTQIA+ communities, this exhibition offers a place of respite and recognition. Join us for the opening celebration in our gallery on Saturday, May 17th from 4 to 7 PM! Komada-John is a mixed, Afro-Caribbean artist and designer raised in Brooklyn and Queens. Working primarily in clay and on paper, her work explores hybridity and the in-between. Her functional and sculptural ritual vessels serve to encourage contemplative practice and support personal and collective liberation. Isissa enjoys practices that support presence and healing, and has been a student of Buddhism for over ten years. She currently makes art and home on unceded Cherokee land in the mountains of Western North Carolina.
Join us this Saturday, April 26, from 2 to 5 PM to Join us this Saturday, April 26, from 2 to 5 PM to celebrate young artists from the Kingston City School District @kingstoncsd, and view their creations from their time in WSW’s Art-in-Education program! Over four weeks, students worked in our Papermaking, Intaglio, and Silkscreen studios, exploring the foundations of these artistic processes through experimentation and collaboration. This session of AIE marks the 40th year of WSW’s partnership with Kingston City School District! Since 1985, we have devoted several weeks a year to providing in-depth, day-long experiences for students. Sessions always culminate in an exhibition, allowing students to experience showing their work in a professional gallery. This session, AIE classes explored central themes of collaboration and duality, led by artists SR Lejeune, Celia Shaheen @gothmomgothmom, Gil Dickinson @rathertendersubject, and Paria Ahmadi @_safety_matches_ AIE is made possible with support from NoVo novoinkingston, a branch of the NoVo Foundation, Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation, New York State Council of the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York Legislature, Klock Kingston Foundation, and Stewart’s Holiday Match Program. Last week we said farewell to the wonderfully tale Last week we said farewell to the wonderfully talented Gil Dickinson @rathertendersubject. During their time at WSW as a Studio Intern, Gil contributed their printing and illustration skills to multiple artist’s book projects, Chili Bowl merch, our annual Valentine’s mailing and more. We look forward to seeing what they do next! We’re delighted to have Celia Shaheen @gothmomgothmom and Julia Maisel-Berick @julia.rmb continue their roles with us into the next term.
*Production update* “Following Freedom,” Lauri *Production update* “Following Freedom,” Laurie Darby’s @laurie_darby_artist upcoming publication is coming together beautifully! We’re preparing to print the covers and colophon in letterpress, and begin binding. “Following Freedom,” is a memorial to the enslaved people who drowned at Ebenezer Creek in Southern Georgia during the Civil War. On December 9, 1864 over 600 enslaved people drowned due to the removal of an essential bridge during Sherman’s March to the Sea. In the present day, Laurie often kayaks on Ebenezer Creek and contemplates the contrast of her life to theirs, inspiring this publication. “Following Freedom” contains linocut relief printing depicting regional plant life present along the banks of Ebenezer Creek, as well as samples embedded into the handmade paper seen within the book. 1-3: “Following Freedom” in production 4: Laurie making handmade paper using elements from Ebenezer Creek for her artist’s book #WomensStudioWorkshop #WSWartistsbooks

Join us for an afternoon of celebration and engagi Join us for an afternoon of celebration and engaging art created by students from the Kingston City School District (KCSD) @kingstoncsd during their time in our Art-in-Education program! Over four weeks, KCSD 4th and 8th graders worked in our Papermaking, Intaglio, and Silkscreen studios exploring the foundations of these artistic processes through experimentation and collaboration. Come by WSW’s gallery Saturday April 26th from 2 to 5PM to view this playful exhibition! —— Classes led by artists SR Lejeune, Celia Shaheen @gothmomgothmom, Gil Dickinson @rathertendersubject, and Paria Ahmadi @_safety_matches_ explored central themes of collaboration and duality. The teaching artists incorporated these concepts in each studio in their lesson planning. This is exemplified by how studios are shared spaces or by experimenting with the varied uses of each studio’s materials. This session of AIE marks the 40th year of WSW’s partnership with Kingston City School District! Since 1985, we have devoted several weeks a year to providing in-depth, day-long experiences for students. The program offers students the opportunity to work alongside practicing artists and learn some of what it means to be an artist in today’s world. Kingston High School students come to WSW to work on projects to enhance their college application portfolios, and elementary and middle school students focus on projects to complement their classroom studies. AIE sessions always culminate in an exhibition, allowing students to experience showing their work in a professional gallery. The Art-in-Education program is made possible by NoVo novoinkingston, a branch of the NoVo Foundation, Cornelia T.
