Have you ever wondered “what is Chili Bowl Decorat Have you ever wondered “what is Chili Bowl Decorating at WSW?” If so, the answer is that it’s a time when volunteers in our community come together to help make and decorate bowls that will be sold at WSW’s annual Chili Bowl Fest fundraiser held every April!

Chili Bowl is one of WSW’s most beloved community events and largest fundraisers, raising vital funds each year in support of artist residencies, workshops, and year-round programming. Guests purchase handmade bowls created by local artists and volunteers, then fill them with chili to enjoy together: a tradition rooted in community and craft.

This weekly volunteer ceramics group meets on Wednesdays throughout the year to create the approximately 900 bowls needed for the event. The project brings together artists, makers, and neighbors in a shared studio environment to contribute to something both functional and meaningful. There are typically two sessions available each Wednesday: 3–5:30 PM and 6–7:30 PM. Everyone is also invited to join a potluck dinner from 5:30–6 PM and bring a dish to share.

Prior ceramics experience is not required to participate, though some artistic experience is helpful. This is not a formal class, but support is available for artists from other disciplines who are interested in translating drawing, painting, or sculptural approaches into clay. Volunteers are welcome to decorate, hand-build, or throw bowls, and can join at any stage of the process, working independently or collaboratively.

RSVP is required. Participants must sign up by noon on Wednesday, and space is limited. RSVPs will open monthly via WSW’s Eventbrite page. Link in bio to sign up.

June’s Meet & Make Monday is just around the corne June’s Meet & Make Monday is just around the corner! Come celebrate the Summer Solstice with us and make your own solstice fairy🧚🌞 ✂️ We will supply materials to create and customize these fairy ornaments. This month’s craft is inspired by Sonya and Nina Montenegro’s @thefarwoods tiny fairy friends.

Bring a friend or make some new ones while you’re here! Depending on the weather, we can also spill onto our porch and outdoor patio. Hot glue and tacky glue work best for this project. We will have some to share, but please feel free to bring your own!

Please note, this is not a workshop, and no formal instruction will be given. All levels are welcome, we just ask that you come with an open mind and eagerness to learn as you go! Some informational guides will be available and we encourage skill sharing! A suggested sliding scale donation of $5-20 is encouraged but no one is turned away for lack of funds.

Please RSVP if you plan on attending. This will help us best prepare the amount of supplies and snacks to provide for the event. Thank you!

As we approach the opening of “Rock, Paper, Sister As we approach the opening of “Rock, Paper, Sister,” we want to highlight each participating artist, and we are so pleased that Elizabeth Saloka @bettyrubblenyc will be in attendance at the June 5th reception. Her practice begins with the collection of rocks and rubble, detritus she gathers from the street, construction sites, and other places. Each piece of rubble she selects is both material and metaphor, a fragment separated from a greater whole. In the 1980s, she was one of thousands of South Korean children adopted by Minnesota families. Growing up in a mostly white environment, she often found connection to family and friends through pop culture. As an adult, she is inspired creatively by the American brands and products she grew up with, using them as subjects of her paintings. The surface imagery Saloka paints onto each form, like the culture of her adopted country, is full of bright colors and bold words, artfully composed branding draped over bumpy, imperfect canvases.

“Rock, Paper, Sister” is a two-person exhibition featuring Kate Bingaman-Burt (Oregon) and Elizabeth Saloka (New York), two artists who explore how the mundane accrues significance. In highlighting the overlooked and the everyday, both artists’ work suggests that even the smallest acts of attention can shape how we understand our lives.
