Giving Tuesday

This #GivingTuesday we’re raising funds to install a brand new exhaust system in our historic intaglio studio!

The intaglio studio at Women’s Studio Workshop is a visual hallmark of our organization. Serving as our main entrance for over 30 years, the sun shining through our iconic front windows has lit the way for countless resident artists, Summer Art Institute participants, and local Art-In-Education students.

We’ve long sought to use low-toxicity materials and processes in our studios. Cleaner air will make it even safer for those who use the intaglio studio. Unfortunately, the 19th century architecture that makes the studio so stunning also makes installing an exhaust fan more complicated. Everything we do must meet the standards of NYS’ Office of Historic Preservation, which involves costly consultations and additional steps. Here’s how you can help: show us that you’re WSW’s #biggestfan by making a gift today. Each dollar you give brings us one step closer to cleaner air for all who use our space.

-If we raise $5000 it will cover the cost of a basic non-sparking exhaust system and a new duct system for our solvent room.
-If we raise $12,000 it will cover the cost of a non-sparking exhaust system for our solvent room, with a studio extension that will include two movable extractor arms that can be placed over other areas within the studio. This system will remove toxic air fumes, dust, and vapor created during various intaglio processes.

This year we have an extra-special gift for our #biggestfans! A reprint of co-founder Barbara Leoff Burge’s 1980 FAN shirt from the WSW archives is available for preorder with your gift of $50 or more! Enter your preferred size and style in the “Add a note” section at checkout.
