SUMMARY:Draw\, Expose\, Print\, Fold - Sarah McDermott
DESCRIPTION:Draw\, Expose\, Print\, Fold – Sarah McDermott \nDates: August 5 – 9\, 2019\nStudio: Silkscreen\nClass limit: 5\nTuition: $750 members / $800 non-members\nLab fee: $75 \nThe registration period for this class has passed. Find more summer workshops on our calendar! \n  \n\nIn this workshop\, participants will learn new skills in screen printing\, while also creating simple book structures. We will begin with a primer on the photo-emulsion screen print process\, exploring different ways of making stencils with film positives\, including hand drawn\, rubylith and photographic source imagery\, as well as working on layering transparent colors. We will simultaneously practice several folded forms and simple sewn structures\, and will then investigate sequence\, movement\, and the relationships between surfaces as we begin to integrate images with our structures. We will pay attention to materials\, including papers that work well for both printing and folding. Ultimately students will create an edition to share with their classmates. Appropriate for all levels.

SUMMARY:Moving Surfaces: Monoprinting - Tara Sabharwal
DESCRIPTION:Moving Surfaces: Monoprinting – Tara Sabharwal \nDates: August 19 – 23\, 2019\nStudio: Intaglio\nTuition: $750 members / $800 non-members\nLab fee: $75\nClass limit: 6 \nIn order to reserve your space in the class\, we require a $300 deposit. \n\n\nThis class is currently full. To inquire about the waitlist\, please call (845) 658-9133 or email info@wsworkshop.org\n\nMaterials List \nExplore monoprinting by building up a colorful\, painterly surface on plexiglass with oil- or water-based inks. We will draw with brushes and brayers and work reductively with a variety of ink viscosities\, transparencies\, and opacities. Participants will develop their prints by building richly layered surfaces over several press runs and learn to combine stencils\, chine collé\, and textured fabrics and materials in the printing process. Pre-existing substrates\, such as etchings or collagraph plates\, can also be used to produce new variations. This is a great way to loosen up\, work rapidly and intuitively\, and develop a new vocabulary to inform your ongoing artistic practice. This class is open to all experience levels. \n\n \n

SUMMARY:Monoprinting With Text - Tana Kellner
DESCRIPTION:Monoprinting With Text – Tana Kellner \nDates: August 26-30\nStudio: Intaglio\nClass limit: 6\nTuition: $750 members / $800 non-members\nLab fee: $75 \nIn order to reserve your space in the class\, we require a $300 deposit. \n  \nThis class is currently full. To inquire about the waitlist\, please call (845) 658-9133 or email info@wsworkshop.org\n \n\nMaterials List \nThe starting point of this workshop will be the elemental question of motivation and how to make work that honors your personal aesthetic\, and expresses your concerns\, fears\, hopes and desires in an effective way. Through a series of guided exercises\, students will explore mark making using a variety of simple printmaking processes ranging from monoprints\, collagraph\, drypoint\, stencilling and image transfer techniques to create a series of related prints. All of these techniques are non-toxic\, direct processes that are easy to master. Each technique will be introduced and students will have the option of in-depth exploration of a process which best fits their conceptual and artistic ends. We’ll also have the opportunity to explore an effective way to introduce text into our prints using handwriting\, hand cut alphabets and hand stamping with wood type. \n\n Within Reach Find Tatana Kellner’s new series of prints\, Please exit\, doors are closing\, at the Vassar College Palmer Gallery through February 16!
