SUMMARY:Mono Print Magic - Kat Richards
DESCRIPTION:Mono Print Magic – Kat Richards \nDates: July 15 – 19\nStudio: Intaglio\nClass limit: 6\nTuition: $750 members / $800 non-members\nLab fee: $75 \nIn order to reserve your space in the class\, we require a $300 deposit. \n\n\nThis class is currently full. To inquire about the waitlist\, please call (845) 658-9133 or email info@wsworkshop.org\n\n  \nMaterials List \nExplore experimental and traditional monoprint methods in this five-day workshop. Students will discover unconventional tools to create various textures using both oil and water-based mediums with stenciling to build layers. These methods combine the richness of oil-based ink with translucency of watercolor to create dynamic printed imagery. Various short demonstrations throughout the workshop will teach offset printing onto stencils\, reductive and additive inking\, chine-collé and applying texturized ink with alterative tools. Students should be prepared to try new methods of mark making and are also encouraged bring previous plates/matrixes and works they wish to experiment with and expand. End this workshop with a deep understanding of how versatile\, expansive\, and dynamic monoprint can be!

SUMMARY:Experimental Inking Techniques with Letterpress Printing - Stephanie Carpenter
DESCRIPTION:Experimental Inking Techniques with Letterpress Printing – Stephanie Carpenter \nDates: July 22 – 26\, 2019\nStudio: Letterpress\nTuition: $750 members / $800 non-members\nLab fee: $75\nClass limit: 5 \nIn order to reserve your space in the class\, we require a $300 deposit. \n\n\n\n\n  \nMaterials List \nLetterpress printing is a tactile art form. Each step of the process is a physical act\, from sketching ideas on paper to gathering the type and making the impression. In this class\, we’ll explore letterpress printing using written language. We will delve into this topic by breaking down words and letterforms into modular components to communicate specific meanings. Working with both traditional and contemporary approaches to creating relief prints\, participants will use a variety of materials such as wood\, metal\, and plastic type\, along with carved linoleum blocks to create unique work that tells a story. We’ll also combine type and images to add depth and dimension to our prints. Demonstrations will include pressure printing\, monoprinting\, typesetting\, and registering multiple layers and colors. Participants will have the opportunity to produce a variety of printed pieces as either small editions or monoprints. All experience levels are welcome.

Students will learn how to mix colors using pigment with transparent acrylic ink and building color and blend roll layers to find the sweet-spot with transparency and vibrancy. The workshop will include instruction on the foundations of creating and translating imagery for the screen\, stencil-making processes\, and registration. In addition\, we will practice building and experimenting with color layers\, noting unique and serial methods for painterly screenprints. Ultimately\, students will use this stencil-based print method to focus on mixing and building transparent ink layers for rich and vibrant prints that surpass our expectations of water-based inks.
