SUMMARY:No Sheets Required – Objects in Pulp - Fafnir Adamites
DESCRIPTION:[asp_product id=”35260″] \n  \nMaterials List \nThis workshop will focus entirely on the sculptural possibilities of paper pulp. Starting with simple armature construction methods\, students will learn how to take paper from 2D to 3D in this hands-on workshop. Materials such as wire\, reed\, string and mesh will be used as armatures to support paper pulp like abaca and cotton. A number of casting methods will be introduced\, including dipping\, casting pulp around found objects and creating molds in clay. Emphasis will be on experimentation\, understanding the inherent qualities of the materials\, and strategies for building volume with paper pulp. Students will explore the sculptural impact of repetition\, texture and surface design like stitching. This workshop is perfect for beginners or experienced sculptors looking for new ways to express themselves in 3 dimensions.

To inquire about the waitlist\, please call (845) 658-9133 or email info@wsworkshop.org\n\n  \nMaterials List \nThe flatness of paper will serve as an inviting platform for transformation. This workshop will consist of two main activities – making paper and cutting paper. Students will use simple papercutting techniques to create a fan accordion book in a collaborative environment. Paying attention to color\, shape\, pattern and texture\, students will focus on the process of taking an idea and visually translating it. We will develop a narrative sculpture in the form of a book. Making paper in the beginning of the class will yield handmade paper to make sculptural work by cutting and folding that paper. Experience with paper cutting is helpful\, but not required.

SUMMARY:Excavated Surface: Experiments in Handmade Paper - Sue Carrie Drummond
DESCRIPTION:[asp_product id=”35272″] \n  \nMaterials List \nThis class will cover the basics of papermaking with an emphasis on surface exploration. We will focus on methods to create imagery within the sheet covering techniques related to embedding\, watermarking\, and blowouts. Participants are encouraged to experiment as they consider multiple approaches to each process working with stencils\, dimensional drawing\, and even physical objects to create images and leave impressions. The product from this class may range from stacks of experimental sheets\, to a series folio editions\, or pieces that may be developed further through drawing and printmaking outside the workshop. \nStudents will learn how to beat paper\, proper sheet formation\, and how to work with pigments. They will learn to use overbeaten fibers and explore a range of different drying methods. We will also discuss alternative methods of working for those participants who do not have easy access to a professional paper studio.

To inquire about the waitlist\, please call (845) 658-9133 or email info@wsworkshop.org\n\n  \nMaterials List \nIn this class students will learn to prepare and dye cellulose fibers for their projects. The techniques that are taught will be applied to dyeing and mordanting pulp prior to papermaking\, and cotton fabrics\, as well for brush-dyeing paper. Students will also learn how to print and pattern on cloth using thickened mordants and resists. In addition\, students will learn to prepare a natural indigo vat. \nStudents will pre-mordant samples of cloth and pulp to dye on the second day using the one-pot palette method to achieve an array of colors. The following days will be spent on experimenting with block printing and some resist techniques on cloth. Students will have the opportunity to bring in their own projects for dyeing. These could include cloth\, beaten pulps for papermaking or finished sheets of paper.
