SUMMARY:Building Big! Techniques for Large Scale Handbuilding with Kayla Noble
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Kayla Noble\nClass Type: Four-week handbuilding class\nSkill Level: All Levels\nTime: Wednesdays\, 4:00 – 6:00 pm\nDates: July 12th – August 2nd\nMake Up Date: August 9th \nAre you ready for an outdoor clay adventure?! Take advantage of the inspiring golden hours to express yourself creatively during our Plein Air Pottery sessions at WSW. While we work on our new and improved studio\, our ceramic program is setting up camp on the back deck outside of the silkscreen studio! In case of inclement weather: the outdoor space is shaded in the afternoon and evening and has a covering adequate to provide shelter from light rain. In case of a heavy rain storm and winds or thunderstorms; class will be rescheduled at the discretion of the instructor for the listed make-up date. \nThis four week class will be a deep dive into handbuilding\, with an emphasis on pinch and coil construction. Conversation will be centered around technical\, formal\, and material considerations necessary in composing a larger pot\, strategy for increasing scale\, and aesthetic composition. We will explore drawing in tandem with clay work; exercises will focus on embodied use of the material to create exploratory mark making with an emphasis on movement and structure. We will discuss how the gesture drawings can be used to inform clay work; how they can be a reference for gestural handling of clay or a starting point for a more tightly rendered draft. The drawing process will be broken down into accessible and simple steps\, in an effort to demystify the process. \n$185.00 tuition includes one bag of clay and firing fees. Registration is online only\, and is first come first serve. To inquire about the wait list call WSW at (845) 658-9133 or email info@wsworkshop.org. \nKilns will be fired on a weekly basis.
