SUMMARY:Barrel Firing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Deirdre Puleo\nClass Type: Handbuilding\nSkill Level: All Levels\nTime: Thursdays\, 6:30-8:30 (Sept. 5-19); full-day firing Saturday\, Sept. 21 Firing Rain Date Sept. 28\nDates: September 5 – September 21 \nDiscover a world of pottery without glaze! In this four-session workshop\, you’ll learn how to barrel-fire pots — a modified version of the ancient technique of pit firing. We’ll make and prepare pots using terra sigillatta\, “glaze” the pots using sawdust\, salt\, coffee grounds and other organics\, and fire everything in large barrels loaded with hardwood. The results are unpredictable and one-of-a-kind! No pottery-making experience is necessary. \nNote: “Firing” day is an all-day event. We load the barrels early in the morning and unload sometime in the late afternoon—it depends on the fire! From start to finish\, it’s possibly a 10-hour day. Prepare for the collaborative fun by bringing a picnic lunch\, snacks\, beverages\, folding chairs\, blankets\, and a sense of wonder! Though attendance for the entire day is not necessary\, it is highly encouraged. \n$360.00 members/$405.00 non-members\, plus a $50 lab fee to cover additional materials. Tuition includes one bag of clay and bisque firing fees. Registration is online only\, and is first come first serve. To inquire about the wait list call WSW at (845) 658-9133 or email info@wsworkshop.org. \nJoin WSW for a member’s discount on your workshop and other great benefits! \nThis class is currently full. To inquire about the wait list\, please call (845) 658-9133 or email info@wsworkshop.org\n
