DESCRIPTION:Stencil to Screen: Unlocking the Power of Print – Tyanna Buie \nDates: August 11 – August 15\, 2025\nStudio: Silkscreen (Second Floor\, located up one flight of stairs*)\nTuition: Sliding Scale\, $450 – $1300\nLab Fee: $150\nClass limit: 6 \nLet’s get experimental! Discover silkscreen’s flexibility\, exploring the inherent cross-connections and expressive possibilities of photomechanical digital processes\, hand drawn stencils\, found stencils\, mark-making and monotypes. Participants will be prompted to push the boundaries of the processes while creating new ways a screen print is made\, explored\, and considered. \nPrintmaking is a unique way to make images and to think about the construction of images. It emphasizes thinking in layers and processes that value indirect and highly mediated production. This course will focus on the history of screen-printing\, as well as contemporary and non-traditional methods and techniques; such as monotypes\, mono-printing\, collage\, and mixed media. Participants will understand the range of ink options and color mixing\, and the different ways hand-drawn and photomechanical films can be made\, while exploring the versatility of screen-printing to work with non-traditional substrates other than paper. \nIn order to reserve your space in the class\, we require a $250 nonrefundable deposit. WSW offers a sliding tuition model for the Summer Art Institute\, and you can pick your desired tuition level from the drop-down menu at check-out. For assistance in selecting your tuition level\, see this guide. If you are in a position to pay full tuition or more\, we request that you do so.
