Everyone is familiar with drawing on paper, but in this class we will make images IN paper. By building images in the wet sheets, participants will achieve a wide range of effects only possible in the papermaking process. Layering paper on paper in the wet stages opens up new possibilities for getting color, form, and imagery into and onto our paper as we make it.
This is a great class for printmakers or anyone who enjoys making marks through drawing, painting, or collage. No prior papermaking experience is necessary, just a willingness to experiment.
Tatiana Ginsberg makes drawings, prints, and installations, most of which use her own handmade paper. She studied at the University of Iowa Center for the Book before spending two years in Japan researching naturally dyed papers under a Fulbright grant. As a Studio Collaborator at Dieu Donné paper mill in New York City, she works with artists to make new work in handmade paper.
