Lara Hailey received her BA from Bath Spa University then went on to study Textiles at Goldsmiths College in London. She received a Princes Trust Grant to set up a textile design business, exhibiting her work at various craft and trade fairs throughout the United Kingdom. This led to some commissioned pieces, most notably for Kensington and Chelsea hospital, London. Lara’s interdisciplinary practice includes installation, stitch, applique, casting and printing. She is inspired by ‘life’, a personal beak up, an eviction, a large-scale riot in a city or the world’s climate crisis. She is interested in how the tactility and resonance of materials and surfaces can explore and interpret human experience.
Lara has exhibited widely in the United Kingdom, set up pop up exhibitions, worked on private and publically funded projects. She works as a tutor in a number of London colleges and as a freelance artist educator, having worked on projects for the British Museum, Natural History Museum and the London Cultural Olympics 2012.
