Barbara Westermann

Barbara Westermann is a German sculptor and installation artist who uses sculpture to ‘embody’ utilitarian objects. She came to WSW as a Public Art resident to produce a site-specific mural and two community cement-casting workshops for au•gust art festival, a month-long program of installation, video, and performance art. Regional Planning Lab: UNDER CONSTRUCTION considers Rosendale, NY, and its industrial past as a cement mining town in relationship to New York City, connected through waterways and concrete. Barbara’s work has exhibited internationally at Malkasten in Düsseldorf Germany, the Tate in London, the Whitney Biennial, MoMA PS1, Dia Art Foundation, and Paula Cooper Gallery, among others. She lives in New York City.
