Women's Studio Workshop features fully equipped intimate studio workspaces in printmaking, hand papermaking, book arts, photography and ceramics. During the summer WSW adapts the intimate workspace to present a series of small and intensive workshops. Each workshop is designed to enhance your studio practice through immersion in new materials, techniques and processes . Each workshop gives you an experience that is less like a class and more like a forum for sharing ideas among peers.

Every year we develop a new series of workshops in printmaking, papermaking, book arts and clay media. We build our class schedule with the goal of balancing targeted instruction in our four studios with workshops that present new and innovative methods and materials, or with workshops that cross traditional media boundaries.

This year we have added one full week to the series. You’ll see a number of classes that include printing on and working with fiber arts, several classes that feature non-toxic processes, and a further commitment to advanced-level workshops for artists who are coming to spend focused time in the studios. We will also introduce a collaborative workshop that will add a new partner, The Center for Photography at Woodstock, along with our good friends at R&F Handmade Paints.

We have made a firm commitment to reduce class sizes and have no more than 6 students in each printmaking workshop. We want to maximize the amount of space and instruction that each individual student receives, so that the WSW experience is productive and meaningful.

To that end some of our most popular workshops will now have two sections, a basic and an advanced class. This will offer students the chance to either build a basic repertoire of artistic skills or to develop and augment their existing skills with a focused or specialized technique.

We have had to raise the tuition for the first time in three years, but if you register by March 15th, you’ll receive an early bird credit toward tuition. Our small jump in fees will help cover the costs associated with offering students a more intimate class setting and to provide artist-teachers with realistic compensation. This increase should prove a worthwhile investment for your artistic growth and development. This may be the year you consider traveling to Italy to study with Kathy Caraccio at the Castello di Potentino in Tuscany. The tuition for our Italy workshop is remaining the same as it has been for the past two years (if the dollar goes higher than $1.50 we may need to add a tiny surcharge).

Finally we are dedicating this Summer Arts Institute Workshop series to Susan Johnston who passed away this pass fall. Susan was a tireless friend of WSW, she designed our catalogs, newsletters, and invitations for the past several years, and was a regular student enlivening every workshop she participated in. A scholarship fund for SAI students has been established in her name.

Early Bird Registrants will receive a $50.00 credit toward tuition for one class if registered before March 15th.

A flurry of bookbinding in the bookarts studio .

All classes begin on Monday. Instruction begins at 10 am. We take a break for a catered lunch at 12:30 and return to the studio until 4pm. Every Tuesday evening the week's faculty present a slide talk about their work. Students are welcome to work before and after official class hours. Classes end Friday after the noon meal

WSW's letterpress, ceramic and darkrooms may be rented for extended periods by artists looking for private work time. Detailed studio equipment lists are available on line. While on the site, please check our other programs. WSW offers residencies, fellowships, studio rentals and private instruction throughout the year.

For many artists considering a project at Women’s Studio Workshop, a workshop can provide both an excellent introduction to our facilities and an exciting inspiration or a headstart into your project! Our workshops fill quickly, so early registration is recommended. Once you have registered you will be sent a confirmation packet including a receipt of payment, a materials list and a list of housing suggestions.

Unfortunately, we do not provide on-site housing for class participants. However there are plenty of options in the surrounding area. There are many beautiful and comfortable Bed & Breakfasts, sites for camping, motels and hotels, as well as rooms in private homes. All will give you a chance to explore and view the surrounding natural beauty of the Catskill Mountains.

Coming without a car is easy. Several housing options are in very close proximity and there are wonderful places to eat right in Rosendale. Please call or email us for details and to make arrangements.
